Throughout the week, the children would take part in a variety of outdoor activities including: environmental art-making sessions, creative challenges, free play, photography, bush craft, dance/movement, games, den building and cycling. The combination of structured activities and free play will allow the participants to work together to develop new skills, take risks and problem solve, based on a foundation of safe practice and respect for the environment they are working in.

Other local organisations and community groups will also be invited to participate in the community picnic. The Village Storytelling Centre will provide storytelling to the families that attend the picnic, entertaining them with local tales and folklore involving the natural environment. Cook and Indi’s World Buffet (redeveloped from the original Darnley Mill, right at the entrance to D2D Country Park) will also be appointed to provide food for the picnic, as their diverse menu celebrates food from around the world, which aptly celebrates the diverse community of Darnley, whilst demonstrating their support and respect of their neighbouring natural ecosystem.

This project aims to ignite the potential in the young people we hope to work with, helping to build the social and emotional wellbeing necessary for them to achieve their potential at school and thrive within their local community and in the future.
